You can save hundreds monthly by budgeting and paying attention to your finances. You would be suprised on how much you spend for things like groceries, gas, and eating out. By budgeting on Excel (or ms money, notepad, checkbook, etc.) you will begin to see where you can save.
If you don't budget, then you have more of a tendancy to spend your money rather than save. In this case you don't know how the money will affect you in the long run so what's it going to hurt to spend now.
To get started, try documenting money coming in and money spend (debits and credits). Use excel spreadsheet to make things easier to calculate. Now try to document future payments and see that if you limited your spending you can actually have more money in the future. Maybe put the extra money into your mortgage which will pay it off earlier.
